2022 ISTD BRIEF:
Create a publication
to highlight the longstanding significance of a book from The 100 Books that Changed the World list.
Take Flight is a series of publications highlighting the continual significance of Rachel Carson's novel Silent Spring within an Australian context. It draws close examination on the longstanding devastating affects human behaviour has on ecosystems and their ability to thrive.
The four–part publication offers a modern perspective on ideas made by Carson through incorporating current Australian examples, and their manipulation of the environment. They examine the enduring repercussions of nuclear testing in South Australia, the decline of the endangered Southern Black-Throated Finch population due to coal mining in Queensland, and the habitat loss of species from post bushfire logging on the NSW South Coast.
